Disney Plus continues to offer many products dedicated to all Star Wars fans. After a TV series of Andor surprisingly able to bewitch the demanding fandom of George Lucas’ world, it’s Grogu’s turn. The cute “baby Yoda” will return with an animated short by none other than Studio Ghibli, made in collaboration with Lucasfilm. We refer to Zen – Grogu and Dust Bunnies, available from yesterday 12 November on the platform.
The series debuted on Disney + on the occasion of the third anniversary of The Mandalorian, the television show that introduced the character of Grogu and that we remember having been renewed to a third seasonwhose release date is now imminent. It is directed by Katsuya Kondo, while the soundtrack is curated by Ludwig Göransson. It is about a real crossover that combines the universe of George Lucas with one of the most famous animation products of Studio Ghibli: My neighbor Totoro.
The “blacks of the dark”, or susuwatari in Japanese, have in fact become a real icon of Japanese animation, in particular of Ghibli itself. They also appeared in The Enchanted City, an animated film released in 2001. In Zen – Grogu and Dust Bunnies, we will see the cute alien interact with these little creatures.
The collaborations between Lucasfilm and the most famous Japanese animation studios therefore continue. In fact, we recall that, in the past, Studio Trigger has worked on some episodes of the animated TV series Star Wars: Visions. The Japanese studio recently returned to the spotlight thanks to Cyberpunk: Edgerunnersproduced by Netflix and prequel to Cyberpunk 2077. The anime was capable of shocking even Hideo Kojima.
