For some time, Amazon Games has been working on an MMO in the Lord of the Rings-Universe that was set last year. Now the game is announced again, but with other developers in the background.
For this they have brought on board the Embracer Group, whose subsidiary is Middle-earth Enterprises, which is developing a new massively multiplayer online game (MMO) based on JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings develop.
The game will be set in Middle-earth and will be based around the popular books The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings-make a trilogy. The MMO is still in an early development phase, which is why the release can only be announced later.
“It’s important to us to bring quality titles to gamers, whether they’re original IPs or games based on long-time crowd favorites like The Lord of the Rings,” said Christoph Hartmann, VP of Amazon Games. “It has long been a goal of our team to bring players a fresh take on The Lord of the Rings, and we are honored and grateful that Middle-earth Enterprises have entrusted their iconic world to us. We are also pleased to extend our collaboration with Embracer Group following our Tomb Raider deal last year, as they have proven to be an excellent partner to work with.”
Lee Guinchard, CEO of Freemode adds:
“The world of Middle-earth continues to prove an inexhaustible source for creators. Amazon Games have a passion for creating immersive, awe-inspiring worlds and expertise in releasing games to global audiences,” said Lee Guinchard, CEO of Freemode. “Our clear ambition is to create the best possible entertainment products for this IP, whether using internal resources or collaborating with the best partners the industry has to offer that complement our capabilities. We are making every effort to create an MMO that does justice to the vast universe of Middle-earth and that will delight players around the world.”
The still nameless Lord of the Ringsgame will be released for consoles and PC.
