Sony announces a new reboot for the 40th anniversary of the franchise, arriving in 2024

The Karate Kid franchise will return with a new movie. Sony has officially announced a new reboot that is expected to hit theaters on June 7, 2024. It was 1984 when “Karate Kid – to win tomorrow” it reached cinemas all over the world. The film gave the collective imagination Daniel “San” LaRusso and Hideo “Mr.” “Master” Miyagi. That film then had two other immediate sequels, in 1986 and 1989, again with Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita in their respective roles. In 1994 then comes a new sequel, The Next Karate Kid, with Hilary Swank in the role of student of Miyagi (10 years before becoming a student of Clint Eastwood in Million Dollar Baby).

In 2010, then, 26 years after the release of the original film, here is a first attempt at a reboot with Jaden Smith as Dre and Jackie Chan as mentor, Mr. Han. The 2010 film received a mixed but generally positive reception from audiences. At the box office he totaled $ 360 million globally against a budget of 40. Karate Kid title retained despite shifting to Kung-Fu. Unlike Cobra Kai, the 2010 film doesn’t fit into what fans are calling “Miyagi-verse”.

At the moment, no great information has been revealed about the new film, other than the release date, but as time passes we will surely know more. Sony, in fact, keeps the cast and setting confidential. It is not clear if it will be a reboot that will be connected in some way to the television series or not.
