'Rise of the Tomb Raider' screenwriter: We don't really want to write about Laura's father

Recently, the chief screenwriters of “Rise of the Tomb Raider” and “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” have tweeted that they actually don’t want to write the story of the protagonist Lara Croft’s father in the game, but the studio executives ignored it.

The reason comes from Gail Simone, the author of DC Comics’ Birds of Prey and Batgirl, and one of the longest-serving writers on Wonder Woman. Gail Simone tweeted:

“As a fan of the Tomb Raider series rather than a writer, I have a piece of advice for the members of the Tomb Raider team: stop telling stories about Lara Croft’s father! No one cared about her father, and it was never interesting to have Laura’s father on the scene. “

It didn’t take long for Tomb Raider 9 and Tomb Raider: Rise lead writer Rhianna Pratchett to retweet: “As someone who is often defined by his father (note*), I have said in past interviews, I don’t like the story of Lara’s father in “Rise of the Tomb Raider”. But because of the instructions from the top, I had to do this job. That’s why I never write comics about any father. Story. (*Note: Rhianna Pratchett’s father is well-known fantasy author Sir Terry Pratchett, author of the Reaper’s Apprentice, Discworld, and Witcher series)”

Jill Murray, the lead writer of “Shadow of the Tomb Raider”, also responded below, she also said:

“Who else wants to write a story about their father these days? I personally have no interest in Laura’s father at all. .”

As a player, there is no way to know what happened behind the scenes of the two works of “Rise of the Tomb Raider” and “Shadow of the Tomb Raider”. But it’s safe to say that the writers of the new Tomb Raider trilogy didn’t want to write about Laura’s father. If there is no direction from the top of the studio, perhaps the final story of “Rise of the Tomb Raider” and “Shadow of the Tomb Raider” will be different for us.
