Reportedly, the next update of PS5 will implement Discord and the ability to stream games. Discord it is certainly one of the most awaited novelties, also because Xbox players have already boasted the function for some time.
According to Insider Gaming sources, there will be a beta version before the actual update, ending on January 30th. However, Discord will not be available in beta.
Firmware update to version 7.00 should arrive on March 8, so players will still have to wait. Hoping the beta doesn’t have any problems, the release of the update shouldn’t be delayed.
While not particularly exciting, the latest PS5 update has rolled out to all systems (22.02-06.50.00); the main highlight of the update is the addition of controller support DualSense Edge.
As for the Discord horizon, it had already been discussed in May 2021 with Jim Ryan, president and CEO of Sony:
To bring these experiences to life for our players, Sony Interactive Entertainment made a minority investment as part of the Series H round of Discord. Since our first conversation with co-founders Jason Citron and Stan Vishnevskiy, I’ve been inspired by their love of video games and the passion our teams share to help bring friends and communities together. So we can’t wait to start this journey with one of the most popular communication services in the world.
