Bandai Namco is working on a JRPG dedicated to the world of One Piece, called One Piece Odyssey. We don’t know a lot since the announcement in March, but a small update on the official website of the game lets us know a little more about how the fights will take place within the title.
In fact, according to what was revealed by the official site, it will be a “classic” JRPG, that is, with turn-based combat. During the month of March, Bandai Namco made it known that fans would have a completely fling new based on the world of One Pieceand going from fighting to JRPG is definitely a whole new experience.
The turn-based system implemented for One Piece Odyssey will allow you to create real strategies to defeat enemies, rather than throwing yourself into the horde of enemies and punching your way through. This change that veers towards the classic JRPG will also give the possibility to do real roleplay within the new title dedicated to One Piece.
Not only, this combat system they will be held in something the site calls Dramatic Scenes, of which not much is known for now. But they are described as “unique troubles within the world of One Piece“.
We also saw some in the presentation trailer protagonists of the game:
- Luffy
- Zoro
- Nami
- Sanji
- Tony Tony Chopper
- Usopp
- Nico Robin
But they’re not all of them yet, so you can expect a lot more characters. But the real icing on the cake is the fact that Eiichiro Oda has revealed that he will be the one to create a completely original story for One Piece Odyssey. For now very little is known and a lot in general, but it seems that the plot of this new JRPG will see the group while explore a mysterious island full of enemies and dangers. Almost the plot of a shonen, as you can well imagine.
At the moment we do not know when it will be released, but according to what has been revealed by Bandai Namco, the release is scheduled for this year.
