Was there to announce Mortal Kombat 1 just to see a cinematic trailer, the date of the gameplay reveal is now fixed. Unfortunately, tomorrow’s PlayStation Showcase will be skipped.
The first real in-game impressions can be seen at the start of the Summer Game Fest on June 8th, as reported today via the newsletter. It reads briefly and concisely:
“Don’t miss Ed Boon joining Geoff Keighley live on stage at #SummerGameFest on June 8th for a first look at the gameplay of the newly announced Mortal Kombat 1.”
As far as already known
So far, revealing only Mortal Kombat 1’s skeleton story, it will reset the timeline and return with a compelling story that offers unexpected twists on classic rivalries and original backstories for a wide range of legendary fighters.
“Mortal Kombat 1 marks a new beginning for the franchise and we can’t wait to share this original story and reimagining of classic characters with our fans,” said Ed Boon, chief creative officer of NetherRealm Studios and co-creator of Mortal combat “We’re also introducing our cameo fighter system, which brings with it a unique roster of partner characters, and we look forward to showing this system, as well as other new elements of the game, very soon.”
Familiar faces such as Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Shang Tsung, Johnny Cage and many others also return. Also new are the Kameo Fighters, a list of partner characters that can help during battles and give players expanded gameplay options.
Where exactly Mortal Kombat 1 stands, the series creator has explained here again. The title will be released on September 19, 2023.
