How to share Internet and Wi-Fi on an Android phone.
A mobile phone is a device whose main functionality is linked to an Internet connection. With a network connection, one can communicate on social networks and messengers, as well as consume content through a variety of services. However, not all users are aware that their mobile phone can be used as a router to distribute the Internet to other devices. That’s why we suggest you find out how to share the Internet on your Android phone.
Is it possible to give the Internet on the phone?
The question posed in the title can be answered in the affirmative. It is true that a mobile phone can be used as a means of Internet distribution. But under certain conditions. The main one is to have a SIM card with Internet access.
Thus, by connecting a third-party gadget to the phone, the user is transferring the traffic that corresponds to him according to his tariff plan. At the same time, it is important to note that some mobile network operators restrict the distribution of traffic. This is often the case with plans that offer unlimited internet access.
Will it affect the operation of the device?
If you decide to distribute the Wi-Fi of your mobile phone to another device, it is unlikely that you will notice a change in the operation of the first one. However, there are still some nuances and you need to take them into account:
- When Internet is delivered, the Internet speed on the device to which it is delivered is reduced;
- Older models may be a bit slower in getting traffic;
- Under certain conditions, you may have trouble opening some applications on your mobile phone.
Therefore, it will largely depend on the characteristics of the dealer, as well as the characteristics of the tariff plan used. Also, keep in mind that the operator usually allocates a limited amount of traffic. Therefore, if you are distributing the Internet, it is possible that you will run out of the assigned package before time, which will cause the speed of your Internet connection to be minimal.
Ways to distribute
There are many ways to deliver Wi-Fi. And a wireless connection will not always be used. We suggest that you choose from several available options, each with specific characteristics.
Via Wi-Fi modem
This is the easiest way to give, with which you can turn your phone into a router. It is available on any device and allows you to distribute the Internet at the cost of an access point:
- Activate data transmission (mobile Internet) on your mobile phone.
- Open device settings.
- Go to “Wireless networks” and then to “Wi-Fi hotspot”.
- Turn on the slider next to “Mobile Hotspot.”
As a side note. In addition to enabling and disabling the hotspot, you can also fine-tune the option by assigning a virtual modem name and password that will be required to connect a third-party device.
The names of the menu items mentioned in the instructions may vary depending on the mobile phone manufacturer and firmware version. However, you should be able to easily find the correct section of the settings and activate the option to give traffic.
After saving the basic settings, you can connect to the mobile phone.
To do this, open the list of available Wi-Fi networks on the third-party device, select the router with the name of the phone and enter the password. If everything is done correctly, the second gadget will start consuming traffic, thus accessing the Internet.
Via Bluetooth modem
A Wi-Fi modem is the primary method of distributing traffic, but it can be done another way. For example, establishing a Bluetooth connection. To do this, follow the instructions below:
- Follow all the steps in the previous instruction.
- Move the “Bluetooth modem” slider to the right.
So the only thing that differs between this instruction and the previous one is the activation of the additional slider. Otherwise, the methods are identical. Except the connection setting, of course. In the second gadget, it will not search for a mobile phone as one of the Wi-Fi networks, but as a Bluetooth device.
The last connection setup method is a wired connection. The good thing about this method is that it provides a high connection speed by transferring the traffic over the wire. However, there are some disadvantages. The main one is the need to keep the mobile phone close to the other device.
If you are satisfied with the features of this connection method, follow a few simple steps:
- Connect the mobile phone to the PC via a USB cable.
- Allow data transfer.
- Power on the access point as in one of the instructions above.
- Turn on the “USB modem” slider.
When using a USB modem, not only the distribution settings are different, but also the connection process itself. You have to search for your mobile phone in the list of available wired networks. To do this, open Settings/Network and Internet/Ethernet.
internet sharing software
Lastly, Internet sharing can be enabled not only through the built-in tools on the mobile phone, but also through third-party applications. Among the huge number of applications available for download through the Google Play Market, the following should be highlighted:
- WiFi access point;
- WPS WPA WIFI TESTER;
- Wi-Fi master key;
- Portable Wi-Fi hotspot;
- The WiFi watcher.
All recommended programs work on a similar principle, but some of them do not have Russification. However, this is unlikely to cause you any difficulties, since the configuration process itself does not differ from what we have considered when using the standard tools. Start the software you want, register the access point and activate the distribution.
The main problem that can arise when establishing a connection is the restriction of traffic distribution. As we have already said, this occurs in plans with unlimited mobile Internet. Unfortunately, this can only be fixed by changing the rate plan.
If you can’t connect because you don’t know the password, check the access point settings. Here you will be presented with the menu option of the same name, where you will have to press the button on the peephole to see the current password.
