How to activate geolocation and configure data transfer on Android.
A phone is a device that can know everything about its owner, from the last purchase in the nearest store to the city where he dreams of going. However, there is information that a mobile phone cannot collect without giving proper permission and enabling the module. We are talking about location technology. We tell you how to activate geolocation on your Android phone and why you need it.
What is geolocation
We believe that many people have come across this word when pulling down the notification shade or opening the settings. Somewhere it may be called GPS, somewhere else it may simply be called “location,” and sometimes it may be called “location.” Regardless of the name, the purpose of this function is the same: to determine the user’s location on the globe down to a block.
This last point is especially important, since there are other ways to calculate the location, such as IMEI and IP. But they do it inaccurately, with a margin of error of entire cities. Geolocation is used by many navigation applications, as well as control programs for televisions and other devices. The operation of the technology is as follows
- The phone sends a signal to the closest satellite.
- It receives the signal and sends a response consisting of the satellite coordinates and the time the signal arrived.
- The phone receives the response and uses it to calculate its own coordinates.
In any case, the important thing is that it works quickly and accurately.
How to turn it on
There are several ways to enable streaming of your own geodata. Let’s start from the simplest to the most complex. Normally, the button to activate this function is located in the control center, which opens with the notification curtain. That is, to enable GPS it is necessary:
- Pull down the notification shade with a swipe from the top down.
- Pull down the menu of additional buttons.
- Tap once on the “Location” option.
Done. Once enabled, the button will even be highlighted. The second method is for those who don’t have the feature in their notifications.
Action algorithm:
- Check the “Activate” box.
The third option is for those for whom even this has not worked. All you have to do is find the Google Maps app on your phone and open it. The first time you launch the app, it will ask for your permission to turn on location detection.
If that doesn’t work either, then your device is either software or hardware corrupted. You need to contact a service center.
How to set a function
In the previous step, we have only enabled the feature and not specified who can access it. To do this, follow these steps:
- Open the “Applications” subsection.
- Select the “Permissions” option.
- Under the “Location Access” category, select the apps you want to give permission to.
Modern phones use switches for each application:
- “Let”;
- “Always ask”;
- “Ban”.
This procedure is not mandatory, since the applications themselves request the necessary permissions at startup. However, if the user has mistakenly denied access to the desired app, the only way to fix it is to adjust the phone settings.
Also, sometimes it is necessary to calibrate the geolocation function. If necessary, the application will immediately inform you and offer to calibrate it simply by turning the gadget along a figure-eight path. This procedure will return the gyroscope to its original position, which will improve the quality of the positioning of the device in space.
