When it’s time to take stock, it’s always nice to make a mark ‘more‘next to the figures. It is especially nice if those same figures have doubled compared to those recorded in a previous period. This is what happened to CD Projekt RED which, with the release of Cyberpunk 2077 patch 1.5 (the famous next-gen patch), saw the profits generated from the game go back up during the first quarter of 2022.
Let’s try to explain the concept better. According to the latest financial results published by the Polish software house – and reported by Game Industry – the publication of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S versions of Cyberpunk 2077 has raised the fortunes of the game. CD Projekt CEO Adam Kiciński presented the results. In the period between January 1st and February 14th 2022, the most purchased version of Cyberpunk 2077 was the PC version. From February 15, the day the patch was released, the trend began to reverse. From that day until March 31st, sales of the title more than doubled with a greater propensity to buy from PlayStation 5 users followed closely by Xbox.
The overall picture of CD Projekt RED, however, appears to be pretty good. Gross receipts – combined between CD Projekt and GOG – amount to approximately 50 million dollars. While it may seem a modest figure, it must be considered that it is one 9% growth compared to the result obtained in the same period of 2021. But it is in the net profit – compared to Q1 2021 – that we see the most significant growth. After operating costs, taxes and interest, CD Projekt RED has just over $ 16 million left. Ridiculous figure? Not so. Compared to 2021 this is + 112%. Over double. And to say that at launch, Cyberpunk 2077 was achieving extraordinary results. Then affected by the actual problems encountered on the title and which forced CD Projekt to commit to refunds as well as causing a thud on the stock market.
In short. Although Cyberpunk 2077 does not appear to have been born under a lucky star, the software house that produced and published it is now making amends for its sins. The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions are not without flaws, mind you. But, of course, their publication has allowed the public to improve the general perception of the title. However, the works are not finished. At the moment the developers are focusing on the expansions that will complete the title. Similarly, it is recent news, the development of the next chapter of The Witcher is about to usher in. The new title may not have Geralt Di Rivia as the protagonist but the details about it are still smoky and uncertain.
What do you think about it? Where are you playing or have you played Cyberpunk 2077?
