Bungie announced new PvP shooter

Bungie has named their new IP Marathon announced, which is currently being developed together with Sony. This is a sci-fi shooter that Bungie has been working on for the first time in 10 years and after destiny is working.

Marathon is more specifically described as a sci-fi PvP extraction shooter in which players take on the role of cybernetic mercenaries known as runners and explore a lost colony on the planet Tau Ceti IV in search of riches, glory and infamy.

No campaign, but a lot of story

This time there will also be no single-play part, but will focus entirely on a PvP experience that offers an overarching game narrative.

“We are building a world filled with persistent, evolving zones where players create their own journey with each run. That could mean an unforgettable firefight against another crew vying for the same loot, or a last-second escape while pressured from all sides.”

One part that gets special attention is this player-based storytelling. The originals Marathon-Games revealed story moments via terminals, but now there are more ways in which players can immerse themselves in that world, both in-game and out-of-game, which the design takes into account.

“Our design philosophy is that players influence the story of the world through their choices and actions. This approach also allows us to dictate the overall narrative direction of the gaming experience while giving players a direct sense of agency and power.”

The ultimate goal with this is to create something incredible, both for players who are completely new to the world of Marathon and for those who have been waiting for more stories in the Marathon-universe waiting. According to Bungie, prior knowledge is not necessary, but it will still have a high recognition value.
