“Yeah, Elder Scrolls VI is in pre-production and after that we’ll get to Fallout 5, so our roadmap is pretty full for the foreseeable future,” says Todd Howard. Considering that Bethesda Game Studios started work on Starfield in late 2015 and that we still haven’t heard from The Elder Scrolls VI four years after its announcement, it doesn’t seem likely that Fallout 5 will be out within the current decade. Starfield will arrive in 2023 and The Elder Scrolls VI is still in pre-production.
Starfield is the first new franchise from Bethesda Game Studios in 25 years and this may explain its long development of more than 8 years. Perhaps with Fallout 5, whose universe we already know, the periods are shortened. In any case, The Elder Scrolls VI is still ahead. Possibly about five years of development per game nobody takes away from us. Todd Howard acknowledges that Bethesda Game Studios keeps players waiting a long time and says that they do everything they can to improve this aspect. However, he believes that it is best to dedicate the time they need to the titles.

Bethesda Game Studios is currently finishing polishing Starfield, which will be available during the first half of 2023. Once the development of the game is completed, additional content will be worked on and a large part of the staff can be dedicated to The Elder Scrolls VI, that it should not take too long to leave the pre-production phase in which it has already been at least four years. It is currently unknown if Fallout 5 will use the Creation Engine 2 graphics engine used in Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI. Perhaps when it begins its development it needs a new evolution.
Todd Howard has also commented without going into detail that Starfield, The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 are not his only projects. For now, fans of Bethesda Game Studios will have to settle for The Pit of Fallout 76 and Starfield, which is not little.
